2024 has started with a lot of changes in the weather, particularly warmer temperatures at the end of February and into March in Nebraska. As we move forward 1 hour in Daylight Savings Time last Sunday and today is the spring equinox (the first day of spring), there has been an abnormal increase in warmer temperatures, but also an outlook of cooler temperatures (again) later this week.

Results of Nebraska Turf Teams at 2024 GCSAA Turf Bowl

Congrats to the 2024 University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) turf teams finishing 6th, 29th, and 30th out of 63 teams at the 2024 Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA) conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The students in the 6th place team were Alex Uram, Scout Allen, John Tines, and Matt Boyd. The other students involved in the turf bowl include Sam Norrenberns, Easton Petsche, Ridge Gerstberger, TJ Thalman, Walker Petersen, and Carson Vachal.

Highlights of 2023 Nebraska Turfgrass Field Day

On Friday, July 28, more than 113 attendees and 14 exhibitors were present at the 2023 Nebraska Turfgrass Field Day at East Campus Research Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. This was the first field day held in person since 2019. Various topics were covered from ongoing research to concerns in turfgrass systems in Nebraska across the 7 speakers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Turfgrass program, UNL Extension, and Husker Athletics.

Cool Season Lawn Calendar for Western Nebraska

Updated to our turf.unl.edu website is the Cool Season Lawn Calendar for Western Nebraska. The information on this calendar is specifically for cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, fine fescue, and perennial ryegrass that are grown in lawns specifically in western Nebraska. The duration of the calendar is from April to November and includes guidance for fertilization in newer lawns (less than 20 years old) and older lawns, cultural practices, and pest control, similar to eastern calendar layout.
